OSIRIS addresses the monitoring, preparation and response phases of
environmental risk and crisis management (mostly concerning the prevention and
monitoring, preparedness, alert and response phases of the following diagram).
Environmental crises are for instance natural hazards or industrial accidents (e.g.,
water pollution, urban air pollution, forest fires etc).
OSIRIS intends to improve the capacity of the following organisations to manage
these phases:
• Civil authorities,
• Civil protection, including the main emergency services (Fire services, Police
force, etc.).
• Entities operating networks.
The next figure shows the OSIRIS scope within the GMES framework:
OSIRIS covers the GMES three stage process:
• In-situ observation.
• Information management through modelling and processing of the data generated
by the observation systems.
• Service production and delivery.
Within this context, OSIRIS provides a Service Oriented Architecture addressing
the smart deployment, use and reconfiguration of in-situ sensor systems.
